Getting Started
1. Create a Group
Tap the + button to create a new group. Give it a name (e.g., "Road Trip" or "Apartment") and add the people you're splitting with.
2. Add Expenses
Inside a group, tap Add Expense. Enter the amount, choose who paid, and SplitBear splits it equally by default. You can also split by percentage or by individual items.
3. See Balances
The group screen shows who owes what at a glance. SplitBear's algorithm minimizes the number of payments so settling up is as simple as possible.
4. Settle Up
When it's time to pay, tap a balance to record a settlement. Mark it done and the balance updates instantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I invite someone to a group?
Open the group, tap Invite, and share the 6-character invite code with your friend. They enter the code in SplitBear to join the group.
Does SplitBear work offline?
Yes. All data is stored locally on your device, so you can add expenses and view balances without an internet connection. Data syncs when you're back online if you're sharing a group.
Can I use multiple currencies?
Absolutely. Each group has a home currency, and you can add expenses in any local currency. SplitBear uses live exchange rates to convert everything automatically.
How does the settlement algorithm work?
SplitBear calculates the minimum number of transactions needed to settle all debts in a group. Instead of everyone paying everyone, it simplifies to the fewest possible payments.
What about privacy?
SplitBear collects no personal data, shows no ads, and includes no tracking. Your expense data stays on your device. If you share a group, only the group data syncs securely to the cloud. See our Privacy Policy for details.
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Free includes all features with up to 10 expenses per group. Pro ($3.99/month or $34.99/year) unlocks unlimited expenses and lets you cover up to 3 groups. The cost is automatically split among everyone in your covered groups — three roommates pay $1.33 each, six friends across three groups pay just $0.67 each. It shows up as a regular expense in your settle-up flow.
How do I manage my subscription?
Your subscription is managed through your Apple ID. Go to Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions on your iPhone to view, change, or cancel your plan.
How do I delete a group?
Open the group, tap the settings icon, and choose Archive to hide it or Delete to permanently remove it and all its data.
